The Philippines, an archipelago comprising 7,107 islands, is a country in Southeast Asia. It is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire and its tropical climate make this country prone to earthquakes and typhoons but have also endowed the country with natural resources and made it one of the richest areas of biodiversity in the world.

The Philippine culture displays a significant amount of Spanish and American influences. One of the most visible Hispanic legacies is the prevalence of Spanish names and surnames among Filipinos. The names of many streets, towns, and provinces are also in Spanish.
